THE AUTHORS
Steve Loewen obtained a B.Sc. (Agr.) degree, majoring in Horticultural Science, from the University of Guelph. Following the completion of an M.Sc. in the same department, he joined the research team at Stokes Seeds, Ltd. in St. Catharines, Ontario as assistant plant breeder. He took a research and teaching position at Ridgetown College of Agricultural Technology, which later became University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus. During the past 20 years he has taught horticulture courses in plant taxonomy, landscape design, plant propagation, arboriculture, and most notably, plant identification. He has owned and operated a mail-order perennial nursery, and has been gardening since he was old enough to be able to plant sunflower, bean and sweet corn seeds.
Phillip Fourie is an enthusiastic amateur gardener. A native of South Africa he cannot wait for Spring. The challenge of finding tried and tested plants and stretching the boundaries of Plant Hardiness Zones fascinates him endlessly.
